2003 Komori L628 ripping sheet at head stops

We have been fighting sheets ripping sheets out on head stops for last two years Komori techs can not find anything wrong have spent thousands of dollars on parts and labor ,not doing it as much but still does it from time to time head stop lock up swing arm rips sheet thru press some time over run stops press sometime smash all blankets techs have replace about every part on infeed
Have seen swing arm lock up move when I was running nothing is touching it its like it is getting power to it but not enough to lock up but make it rattle on and off
Faster u run worse it is ,don't no what to do at this point
Great press for holding color hate to get rid of it but after 5diff tech s in might be next step also have 528 runs great

Our '97 K526 did EXACTLY this.... basically your misfeed detector/sheet dam ain't working properly so a skewed sheet will still get into the press even as the feeder shuts down?? Our engineer fixed this and it wasn't expensive either: he replaced a solenoid and some other minor bits and pieces but to be honest I'm not sure what he did exactly :( This particular glitch is a killer when you're having to swap out 5 smashed blankets or spend your day with a finger on the crash-stop button trying to save them...

I'm currently in Germany but I'll message a co-worker and see if I can get some answers...

Thanks anything you can find out will be helpful I no the solenoid was one of the first thing that was replaced thanks

Yes the only thing that has not been replaced is the chain for the timing it is close to its limit for tightness but timing is within tolerance every time I've checked it

You say the solenoid was replaced - but which one? There are three solenoids on your feeder; one for the feeder tapes, one for the head stops and one for the swing gripper. I would start with the swing gripper solenoid and associated linkage and springs. If you power off the press, with the press at the proper trip timing, does the plunger move up and down smoothly? Is the linkage solid - no wobble?

You also mentioned overshoots - how many do you have? Are your sheet smoothers lowered far enough that a second sheet will drag on them? What about your hooks? Where are they set at? When was the chain last replaced?

We need more information as to what exactly is happening.

The swing arm solenoid was the replaced all of the tech s have check it no play and lock lever ,cam follower were replaced chain has not been replaced but every time we check timing it's withend tolerance ,not a lot of over run s most of the time is does it when it rips a sheet out of head stops I do have sheet smoother down tight if they r up it will jump headstop and I do run headstop a little high

I have seen solenoid move when press is running but not stop feeding paper it like its not coming on in full force but its get a enough power to make it go on and off but not stay on long enough to stay lock on sometimes it will jump on and off 4 or 5 times and never stop feeding paper

The feeder solenoids are not powered when the press is running, with the feeder engaged. They are all powered on and off together. If swing gripper solenoid comes on/off 4-5 times, while the other solenoids are normal, I would replace the solid state relay that powers it. Usually it is a G3NE-205TL. If that does not work you may need an electrician. Good luck!

They printer on the '26 got back to me: it was a broken pin that required the side of unit 1 to come off to repair..... sorry I don't have any more technical info lol but it's Christmas and old mate's on holidays too! The problem you're having sounds identical to what he was getting though, we went through blankets like the Salvation Army when it was playing up :(

Basically any stock: the thicker the stock the more likely you bingle your blankets. They got plenty of sheets in the first unit roller train as well running lighter stocks....

Talk to one of the tech s the relay was replaced but it did not come with the resister and the other stuff that is soidered to it ,that is still the old stuff could that have something to do with it ,

Have you talk to Tony Stahl at Komori?
He can talk to the resident Japense engineer if needed.
