AB DICK 9970 Going Nuts

I have an AB DICK 9970 about 7 years old. It will be running and then just turn itself off.
It does not give me any errors just goes off, OR ... I will be running and the impression just goes off. OR.... I will be running and the counter stops counting and the press stays on impression. OR..... It will turn off and give me a SYNC error.... Also when these things happen I have to turn the press off by the main Power switch.
HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

9870

The 9870 is a great machine. I would take a few simple steps first:
Disconnect and clean all the cable interfaces. The ones behind the control box and the ones on the keyboard and op control handle. They accumulate powder and oil over time and contribute to a loss of power transfer and communication abilities.
Make sure your 5VDC power supply is not getting hot and opening to shut the press down. The drive relays could also be going bad. The contacts get burned. A sync error means the CPU expects to see the press running after drive is pushed. This will also display as impression and count problems also.
Good Luck

Still Going nuts....

Still Going nuts....

Hey Offset Guy,
Thanks for the tips, I tried everything and it is still shutting down. Does not seem
to give me the sync error just shutting off. I was wondering if you could tell me where the 5VDC motor is and what it looks like. I would like to see if this is getting hot.

Thanks
Ed

Hi
I am not a print technician like the other guy just a printer with AB Dicks so he may be able to give you some technical advice. On the back of the press at the bottom there should be a box that your electronics goes into. Inside there is a 5V dc power supply (not a DC motor). This power supply converts your mains electricity into 5v dc power to operate your computer processor and your sensors. If it goes bung or provides intermittent power you will have the kind of problems you are describing. If you know an electrician who repairs electrical devices it is a fairly straightforward test and even repair (certainly cheaper then buying a new 5v power supply)

I have an ABDick 9970 that we picked up, the head rocks back and fourth until you put it on impression, is that normal for these duplicators.
