AB Dick Perfecta 9975 gripper problem

We are having problems with the gripper closing too soon - almost as soon as it opens (goes about an inch or so) on the delivery end.
Can't hardly get anything printed as it tears most sheets.
We have tried to adjust it to no avail. Any ideas

This is just a guess. It sounds as if there is some end play that allows the cam follower to fall off the cam in mid stream or part of the cam travel.
