Acrobat Pro 9 and Preps problem

Hi!

We have problems if we save a PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 and then try to use the PDF in other software, such as Preps.

If I delete a page in Acrobat 9 (or similar), and then try to import the PDF in Preps I get this message: PDF Native Read Error: ERROR: PDFREAD 3 on file: ...

We have some other software which also have trouble with Acrobat 9 PDF:s.

Our solution for the moment is to make an PDF-optimization, but it's really irritating.

Any ideas??

Preps or the other software you are using. Must be able to handle the version of PDF, Acrobat 9 saves out which is PDF 1.7.

Preps seems to be rather fussy about PDF standards.

Preps seems to be rather fussy about PDF standards.

I have found that newer versions of Preps (we are still at 5.3) really work best with a standardized PDF/X-1a. In fact, "Preps Ganging" (came bundled with 5.3) seems to only accept this standard profile. The X-1a of course means compatibility all the way back to Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3).

We also use Preps 5.3 and PDF/X1a. But the problem seems to be that Acrobat change the PDF version even if you just delete a page en save the PDF.

Magnus,

You are correct, Acrobat does save the PDF as a newer version. If you have the Pitstop plug-in installed. I believe there is a setting to save as current version, even if you are not using Pitstop.

Yes I got pitstop installed but I can't find the "save as current version" setting..?

Go into your Pitstop preferences, Tools Tab.

In my version, the setting is at the bottom and is called "Prevent the automatic change of the PDF version when saving"

Just to add my Thanks to this, I was having the very same problem with Preps.

I'm using Pitstop Version 8 update 5 and I found the PDF version option under the Processing Tab.

I seem to learn something new every time I'm surfing around this forum and I've been in this business for 20 years.

Acrobat 9 will ALWAYS maintain the correct PDF version for any PDF/X (or PDF/A or PDF/E) file when saving changes.

Are you sure you are working with actual PDF/X-1a files? And Acrobat 9?

Yes Im sure! If Acrobat don't change the version then it add something else that Preps and other software can't handle. Anyway the problem was solved using the "preserv version checkbox" in the pitstop prefs.
