Adobe Illustrator print resolution problem

Am printing an image where the shape is an octagon, the problem i am having is the image is 48" top to bottom side to side and the image resolution is coming out not very sharp. I am using the program Illustrator to print through an Epson Stylus Pro 9800 printer. I tried rasterizing the image but saw only a slight improvement. If anybody could help out there i would really appreciate it thank you

make sure document raster effects settings are at 300dpi and not 72dpi.
