I started to deal with scripting and the first thing I found was its free counterpart:

I checked on AI 2021 — everything works. No training is needed, everything is intuitive.

Just curious. I wouldn't want to hard edit artworks in the creative application. Imagine if you need to move some items…too late, already cut!
But maybe this is used in production when doing last PDF edits in Illustrator. But the latter should be avoided as much as possible.
I would preserve creative artwork as it is and use PDF editor such as Enfocus PitStop which has a tool to crop images and vectors that are clipped away. Even remove items that are outside the bleed box.
