Anthem Pro plate scratches

Hi our company has been using the anthem Pro plates for over 12 months now in Sydney Australia on a 4 colour Komri, i find that, sometimes they scratch easily from paper dust when using uncoated stock and also from the hicky picker, yet other times they can last 50,000 impressions without a worry. Aslo I find they take longer to clean up at start up wasting more paper than the old film plates. any ideas on what to do to eliminate these problem.
Thanks Darren.

we use Varn Excel Fount (formerly EJL17) 2% still using Isopropanal thats on the Komori
on our Heidlberg GTO's we use Varn Direct Damp with Varn Kompac dampening system.
I find as the day goes on, and the Komori dampener roller gets coated with ink it take up to 40 impressions before screens clean up too much waste !!!
Thanks Darren.

Darren, I would look to get rid of the IPA as soon as you can and go with a more rounded fountain solution.
There are also settings in the Komori to add more water at start up that will overcome the poor starts.
If you are in Sydney PM me and i can drop in to give you a hand.
(I'm in Sydney too)

set the "flush" on mid or high, and it will keep the metering speed higher until you cross a 5000iph threshhold then drop back to the preset level... be aware if you are running below 5k your dampening will be at a high level! should start up cleaner tho :)

question kel:

we use a Xing graphics plate on our komori's and tend to do longer runs (million plus at times) on CMY plates and tend to wear out the magenta plate only, after maybe 200k or so... its not an issue but wondering why only the red plate wears..im guessing its just the different chemicals used in the red ink base or pigment.. be nice to know the why of it..??

Possibly the acidity of the Magenta. Have you tried alternative inks (i.e: Japanese or Euro)
There are two entirely different approaches to manufacturing reds with the Jap/ Euro's.

BTW How did you get run lengths like that you lucky bugger??

Junk mail!!! can get bloody boring tho, make ready, run 5 skids back em up as quick as you can, change black plate, another 90,000 on floor and so on... we have done runs of 750k onfloorwithout a plate change... gets monotonous!! (then they throw a 500 run, 4 or 5 sig sheetwork magazine with match ups and all the little headaches you can think of, or posters etc and want the same on floor average)

We use hostmann steinberg 'impression' on the 40 and the toka(i think) 'best one' on the 26, each press is run almost continually with 1 or 2 wash ups per week.. i prefer the best one but dont get to choose.. its more expensive but in comparo i run at least a 10% lower profile... but i dont know if the price difference=usage gains
