Aqueous coating on inkjet print?

We are doing offline aqueous coating on sheets printed on a Fuji J-Press. We have had some major issues with adhesion and scuffing. Most problems are with heavy coverage black and blues. Has anyone else seen these issues and what solutions have you come up with? Our coating supplier is telling us to run the sheet through with just IR on to heat the sheet then do a second pass with coating, this process is not an option for us. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
