Artist Francis Nathan Abiamba unexpectedly used an inkjet printhead as a paintbrush to paint a portrait of Charlie Chaplin. Using a printhead from Paul Leibinger GmbH & Co. KG, the portrait was created at the Wire & Tube 2018 trade fair in Düsseldorf.

With a trade fair booth adjacent to Leibinger’s, “Abiamba just picked up the print head, threw the umbilical line over his shoulder, and used the back of a poster as his canvas,” according to Leibiinger management.

Abiamba had only briefly practiced with the print head, but in a short time—using the printhead as his paintbrush—he captured the distinguishing features of the film icon, including his bowler hat and famous two-finger mustache.

About the artist:
Abiamba was born 1987 in Bidjap, Cameroon, and has his studio located in Pescate, Italy. His work includes paintings, drawings and sculptures.
