Backing up Imposed proofs with a HP design jet

Has anyone had good luck backing up imposed proofs with the HP Design jet series printers without using the Spin jet accessory? We are using an Iris 43 wide for imposed proofs and also an Epson 10600. We do all of our backups manually and it works great for both printers. We were looking into getting an HP design jet printer for imposed proofs (to replace the Iris 43 wide) and were wondering if manual backups were easy to do.

Hi,

The HPs are good for doublesided proofs but usually only with a duplex system such as the VersoJet, or Spinjet.
working in manual mode for imposition work with something like a 100gsm paper forget it, with thicker paper it might work, but will still take time loading (5+ button preses etc)

The only proofer which can be pretty good is older HP1050. With software like the VersoProof HP you can use roll media, print first side from roll, then print the second side loading it as a sheet. The HP is clever in that it retracts the roll media automagically when a sheet is loaded. The software takes care of the alignment and setting the correct media in the printer job. i

One thing to bear in mind is the HP print position is based on the position on the platen, where as on the Epson
it is based on offset position from edge of sheet.

Hi Mac,

You should look at the Spinjet by techsage, www.techsage.dk . These machines are very fast and we have had know problems with them. You should look at the Spinjet bolted on the Designjet 4000, It is faster than anything else on the market

Mac, it won't do it. It's almost as if HP designed the things specifically to *not* back up. At least a few years ago, anyway. Attempting that is a trip down the road to hair loss. I'm living proof. :p

HP 4000 works great with a arm from techsage... incredibly fast and u can fix any back-up issues..
Iris 43 r great printers but way too slow..
