Calibrating a DI press...

So I'd been using Konica Machine to get into the paper printing market, and recently bought a QM DI press, with a new copy (new to me and to this press) of Harl. 5.3.

I printed a few simple jobs with no big colour issues, but now I'm doing some complex sell sheets with what are suppose to be vibrant greens, which can not be fixed by playing with the colour keys.

I suspect I need a densitometer and to create some sort of colour profile for the press, does any have any ideas on how I'd go about doing that, and where I could find some info on it?



PS - I do have an expereicned press operator running the press, but he doesn't have experience with rip operation or colour config.

PSS - This is not an invitation for some trade printer to come and pedal his/her warez, I'm not interested in subbing the job out to you.

It can be done very easily with the aid of a densitometer.....where are you located ?

Another thing DI's do have issues sometimes with green's.......can you run the green as a special colour ?

We're located in Toronto, Canada.

As for running it as a special colour - I'd rather not. I'd like to find a profile that works for all jobs and stick with it for the time being.

I have an i1 Pro Specrophotometer, could I use that take take readings manually and enter them into the rip to calibrate the machine?

If the greens are flat screen tint builds you could try making a color atlas like one of these: Quality In Print: The Color Atlas - helping designers to specify color
then choose a screen tint build from that to get your most vibrant greens. If the greens are within a cmyk image you could check the screen tint builds in the image and compare with your color atlas and then modify the builds accordingly.
