clc 5000 problems

We , unfortunately, made a choice in October 05 to start an agreement with a supplier who will remain nameless, for a clc 5000.

This machine never worked properly from day one - the engineers took up residence, and even had their own mugs in the canteen.

They couldnt make it run - and the supplier walked away... leaving us with a 5 year finance lease.

without in anyway bringing the attention of legal vultures, could anyone share their experiences, good and bad with this machine.

Does anyone know how much a machine, that had already run 30 months out of a 36 month lease, would have been worth in October 05.

And - sorry to go on, does anyone know the time that the basic clc 5000 (not the later updated versions) was in production by Canon eg 2000 to 2003??

All help gratefully received.

David,
I fully understand your issues with the CLC5000, I had a CLC4000, please search for my posts or PM me, and I'll give more details.

David,

I wish I could give you some glimmer of hope. Unfortunately at my last job we got the CLC 1000. We then after being promised the stars and moon moved to a 5000. I can tell you that we had it in 1999 when Hurricane Floyd hit. I would say that we got it at the end of 98 beginning of 99. Every tech I know who worked on that line said that Canon sacrificed quality and consistency for speed.

I have not been involved with the purchase of a Canon color box since and am openly hostile to the very idea. This year they also lost our B&W business to Xerox.

"openly hostile"..... Hell I told them I wouldn't even buy a Canon camera.:mad::mad:

Craig,

I understand but I love my 40d. Fortunately for Canon I had my lens investment before the 5000 was released.

Hello I'm new here and a former Canon USA employee and am somewhat familiar with the 5000.

Would you mind sharing the specifics of your issues? There are certain things that many in the digital arena desire that the 5000 just won't do.

Also have you raised the issues with Canon, USA? if you bought it used or from a non authorized dealer CUSA may not support you.

If I can help further let me know.

Canon will acknowledge every issue with the CLC4000/5000, never give any solutions other than get a 7000VP. That was their answer to me by Janet Cain. The CLC4000/5000 are great paper weights!

Well Janet is retired and I know plenty of CLC5000 users who make plenty of money with the machines. If your customer expectations are such that the CLC5000 won't meet them, then it is indeed an excellent flat surface on which to store ink, paper & toner.

To many Sales People put the machine in environments where they knew it would fail. The limitations of the CLC5000 led directly to the development of the 7000VP which having worked extensively with is very good bordering on great product. The challenge for the asian manufacturers is getting their dealers to step up to the plate and make the investment required for the product to be supported.
