Color conversion: What is the best course of action in this instance...

Hello -

I've got around 140 individual Photoshop PSD's in RGB, and each of them are
mostly black and white with 4 additional colors (the same colors used
in each file).

I need to somehow get those colors converted to Pantone spot colors.

Is there some way to batch convert the colors to Pantone and then save as a DCS 2.0 file for an offset printer to use?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

RB

Don't know of a way to do that in Photoshop. LiveColor in Illustrator can convert to pantone, so I suppose if the pictures were simple enough to trace using LiveTrace and LiveColour in illustrator and limiting to a library containing just the colours you want would do the trick, the problem is the detail of the halftone in the PSDs.

The proper way to setup spot color in Photoshop is via channel(s), so short answer would be NO. Lukas' suggestion might work on simple images, outside of it, I think you'll be busy for a while converting these images.

oh - just a reminder i'm sure - if you have in RGB "black and whites" - be careful if your printer intends to run a process black, since converting your RGB "black" may result in a 4 colour "black" - which usually means the black is not solid and he'll have to work some magic - which is another word for costs

but i'm sure you know that
