Color managing offset emulation for digital printing. Input-output profiles.

What is the best way to color manage for offset emulation on a digital press? What I have is an Esko Equinox profile that was created in Color Pilot 22. That profile is for our KBA offset press. Our DFE is an HP SmartSream color managed by Esko using Color Pilot 18. We run the HP30000. Within the Color Strategy on the DFE, can I import the Equinox profile (as input profile) and use the HP digital press profile as the output profile. Am I correct in saying that, theoretically, the input profile (Equinox profile/gamut) will translate to the output profile (HP digital press profile/gamut) using the profile connection space? Will this work?
