Crestline problem

Running a Hamada 234 with crestlines on both heads, the second head is running soaking wet. I have checked all the pressures several times and they are fine. Any ideas what is wrong?

I had a Ryobi 3302 with Crestlines for some 15 or so years, without experiencing that problem when the roller stripes were properly set. So there.

Well I don't imagine that helps very much.

Seriously, though, you need to describe, with particulars, how you "have checked all the pressures". We need to go beyond the fact that you think you "have checked all the pressures", but are still having the problem.

Are you arriving at the correct roller stripes by inking up the dampening rollers, running the press to distribute the ink evenly, stopping, inching as needed, and taking an imprint of the roller nip stripes on paper for careful measurement with a suitable ruler, or are you just eyeballing the stripes directly on the rollers? Do you understand the need to loosen the set screws on the ratcheting collars before attempting a new setting? Those ratcheting collars are currently locked down at the wrong location on the problem unit. Your goal is to find a new correct location to lock them down at.

Re read the instruction manual again before attempting the procedure again. Be sure to use a ruler that has markings at the proper divisions to take your readings without having to estimate the measurement between lines.

Any one familiar with the procedure, please feel free to correct any of my comments.

[Edit] What is the condition of the rollers on the problem unit? The target stripe settings are only meaningful for roller in good condition. A pitted roller will cary more water than a smooth one.

Are you running a chiller or bottles on each unit? How old are the crestline rollers. If you recently purchased this press and the crestlines sat around for a long period without being used they could be hardened. Crestlines print great when they are new but as they harden they will still produce a good stripe but not meter water very well. Try taking the rollers out and lightly scrub them with pumice or ajax then wash them real good and see if the printing improves. If it does you will need to get a new set of rollers. Another test is to move the water rollers from unit two to unit 1 and also from unit 1 to unit 2 and see if the the problem follows the rollers

Got it

Got it

Went back and did pressures again, turns out metering roller was off ever so slightly. Up and running again, thanks for your replies.
