EagleRIP 4.0 connectivity issue

I have a new Imac workstation running OS 10.6. Our RIP is installed on an NT workstation (PC).

On my older G4 workstation, I print eps files to the RIP through an ethernet connection. There is a printer description/output device in the dialog box called "EagleRIP".

On my new Imac, the only option I have for a "printer" is to print a postscript file, but I cannot print to the device. I can only print a file on to my workstation, and I don'tprint postscript files to the RIP. I print directly out of Illustrator to the device.


Since there is no "EagleRIP" output device, I am at a standstill with my workflow on this machine. HELP!!!!!

Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) no longer supports Appletalk, so if the Eagle RIP was connected as an Appletalk printer, you're out of luck.
Alternatively, connect to the EagleRIP via NT/pipe printing (which I coluldn't get to work).
The easiest thing to do is to use Hot folders for printing (I've got them defined on my Xserve and I just toss in the PDFs).

I just tried to set up a hot folder.....I did everything according to the help section. But, I couldn't actually see the supposedly created hot folder on the EagleRIP in the folder that I told it to where to be placed. So, I went back into the input manager and deleted it.

Now, I have an even bigger problem because I can't even print a file to the RIP with my old G4 any more.

I get a Postscript syntax error that displays "Undefined file name error ID:FFFF1019"

So now I am even more dead in the water than I was before. Any suggestions???

I can't see uninstalling and reinstalling the whole RIP software as a viable option, because we had technicians come in and do the entire initial setup for me, including the communication for the G4 to the NT PC through Appletalk.

My fear is that I am only doing more harm than good, and I warned the plant manager about this possibility. Because of costs, they were leaving it up to me to find a free solution. Now I fear I will be the scapegoat for this whole situation.

OK. Create a folder either on the PC or Mac but make sure both computers can see it and write to it (this means windows sharing on the Mac or File services for the Macintosh on the NT). Make sure you have a template defined on the RIP and then in the Input manager create a hot folder by navigating to it and assigning a template. I have four different workflows enabled - different screens, preseparated-composite, etc.

Thanks for the advice Amer....but we finally broke down and called a $300 an hour tech. Some kind of problem came up where the EagleRIP software was corrupt and wouldn't even process a test file on the PC. So the tech wiped the hard drive clean (reformatted) and reinstalled the EagleRIP software. Then we had to get the G4 communicating with the PC again. Finally, he helped me to get the Imac and PC connected. It would have cost us half if we had just hired him in the first place....but I had no say in the matter until it became a crisis.
