Election collateral damage

We won't miss them. Hope you can get along with that scum.

Scum? Really? People are afraid for their future and you call them scum?! This is an example of the very hatred that Trump has helped to foster.

Well we have a future now. Deplorables? We know who the haters are. That is what I am talking about the scum always start their crap. I feel sorry for the Canadians.

I hope they realize that we have a single payer health care system where in some provinces an individual may have to pay a monthly fee of $56.

$56 a month? Are you kidding me? Average cost here for someone who went through Obama-Care is about $350 a month. Luckily, my employer has group health insurance for us, but, we still have to pay a portion (about $170 a month). $56 a month would be a dream!

I wouldn't call the people wanting to leave scum. But I do look down upon them. Its also a reflection of our society now. When things don't go your way, just pack up and leave. Dont try to work and change something. I would like to point out a few things.

1. Most people i see who say they want to leave because of Trump are the ones who before last night preached acceptance and you must accept everyone.

2. Everyone I know who wants to leave the country now condemns Trump for wanting to build a wall, yet none of them have mentioned Mexico as a country they're going to move. Its Canada, Australia, New Zealand, ect. If Mexico is so great why not go there. I hear the cost of living is extremely low

For those worrying about them leaving, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. They have about the same level of credibility as who they voted for.

I am more worried they won't leave.

Well, it's $56 US a month - $75 Cdn. If you earn less than $20K a month then there are subsidies to defray the cost.

Just to make it clear most of the expense of health care in Canada is not paid for by the small monthly or yearly charges that Gordon has stated but are covered by mainly provincial income taxes. So the costs are covered by provincial budgets. I think that health care costs are about 1/3 of the total provincial budgets. That is a large sum and there are always efforts to reduce the increasing rate of cost increases health care is experiencing and to help meet some shortfalls, donations to hospitals and relatively small yearly extra charges by doctors for extra services are used.

The result is still a lower overall healthcare cost per head than in the US but it still is not free. Some of the major benefits of the single payer approach is a more efficient system that treats everyone that is a legal resident of their province. Also there is little worry about major costs to an individual although not everything is covered.

I suspect most americans would not like the higher taxes seen in Canada.

So if you earn less than $240,000 per year there are subsidies to defray the cost? Sign me up!

Canadian dollar lost a lot of value post election, I am guessing. :-)
