ESS7 R4 - font trouble - euro symbol missing

Hi,
after importing pdf file with helvetica font T1 not embedded the euro symbol just disappeared. Without any warning. Our preflight doesn't bother about system fonts not embedded.

Any ideas why this happens?
any suggestion how to avoid it?
Normalizing in trueflow ended up correctly...

Your message is pretty well in line with a recently found problem.
Certain special characters, indeed including the Euro symbol, can disappear if they are in a single byte TrueType font. (these are less frequent than you would imagine, we doubt for example whether you can create this situation from Adobe CS).

Workaround:
Your preflight could check for Single Byte TrueType fonts and for these cases you should use the flattening normalization (where this problem does not occur). Make sure to not use flattening in (all) other cases as you will degrade the performance of your system.
