Expired BID unit for Indigo 5000

We have a BID unit that is 6 months past expiration. I've heard that these can be used as much as 4 years after expiration. Does anyone know for sure what the story is with expired BID units?

What prevents to check up BID on the machine?

If you dont have a consumables contract just use it. It should have been sealed in aluminum wrap. It will probably be good for the next ten years.

We use our BID's until they break! Yes we have a service crontract, but unless there is a problem, keep using it.
