A bustling Print 18 show saw the rollout of KonicaMinolta’s 160 cm wide UV-LED rollfed/flatbed inkjet printer. As the first Konica Minolta-branded wide format machine, the AccurioWide 160 deploys KM 1024 printhead technology (widely used in other wide-format printers) with 1140 x 720 maximum image resolution. The printer runs in a range of production modes from draft to high quality using either six-color or four-color-plus-white inksets. The fact that the machine can handle both roll-fed stock or rigid substrates indicates KM expects the printer to appeal to a broad band of customers: commercial printers, franchise shops and signage/display businesses.

Production speed is expedited by UV and LED curing technology, which also contributes to the wide range of substrate compatibility. The printer should be able to handle most types of display work, including wood and aluminum dibond materials.

KM was also touting AccurioPro WideDirector, a front end workflow platform that includes automated color management, job layout and pre-flight tools.

Konica Minolta has moved remarkably quickly over the past few years introducing new products in multiple printing categories. Next up, the company plans to introduce a 2m version of the AccurioWide, with a wider color gamut. The AccurioWide 200 will debut at SGIA Expo.

We currently have this machine on our floor. We have printed on heavy board, colorplast and foam board with no issues. We are now trying to print on adhesive labels and the copy looks really bad. We are using DigiJet_ Calendered Vinyl for Digital Printing (3.2 mil Gloss). Do we need to profile the media or just use the Generic one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
