We are looking at purchasing a used press. We would like to get a press with newer technology that shortens make-ready times and increases production. Heidelberg is probably the most expensive with Komori coming in 2nd and RMGT 3rd in cost of used machines. What is everyones thought on the 3 machines as far as maintenance and repair costs over time and longevity of the press? Seems like we can get newer technology and newer machines for the same or less money on the Komori and even more so on the RMGT. Thanks in advance.

We are a high volume large company and at the start of the year replaced our Komori with the Heidelberg speedmaster. After the normal training and adapting period, we utilize this for books, envelopes to be converted etc. I can tell you the repairs have been minimal compared to the volume we print , and a huge factor was the need for high quality output. Komori just didnt do well with spot color. Heidelberg is highly adjustable in my opinion compared to the Komori. This isnt a proper comparison, but just my experience. Good luck to you!
Thank you for the reply. Did the company purchase a brand new Heidelberg or used one when you replaced the Komori. Was the Komori and older press? I would expect repiards to be minim for the first few years (depending on volume) on a new press.

without breaching confidential info, lol I can say it was 1 year old and we have a full service contract...they are here quickly when there are issues. Issues are more about compatibility and unforeseen needs than anything. Here this week to get a feature to work properly. Komori was very profitable, we just wanted to keep up with tech and hit a couple more markets now that we have higher quality. Hope that helps...

oh and as hard copy proofs, we send either epson coated...or we use our Canon ink press. I cant match the plate output perfectly. Yellows are tough, but for the most part our customers have been fine with the proofs.
Heidelberg is by far the best you can get in terms of offset press.
I could make ready a six color job in 20 minutes which included hanging plates etc. and have a press check signature on the first sheet most of the time.
Heidelberg offered me a job as a demo person a long time ago due to my in depth knowledge of the machines and I wouldn't think twice about buying a different brand.
Komoris fall apart and have a hard time with small surface area spot colors etc.
