anybody have one of the new sm52's with the curved plates instead of the old style 3 curved bars.

my question is does the new style plate cut down on marking? or create more head aches with cleaning?

on the upgrade topic do the new style sheet breaks help as well.

This style of plate has been out for several years. On any of the presses that I instructed on, we did not find any problems or complaints. Short grain card might become an issue. I often wonderd if they were not designed to create a spoiler effect that sucked the sheet downward as it went through the press. They seem to work well. They do come out fairly easily if you do need to clean them. They were beiing used on standard SM52's and the expanded stock range SM 52's. New style sheet brakes worked well also and several different belts are available. What kind of issues are you having with them?

we have the old style rods and oring style sheet breaks which clause marking unless adjusted constantly. I was looking to upgrade and did not want to if it was not helpful

I have a quick question. Are you buying a new press or are you talking about possibly retrofitting an existing press? Any retrofits from Heidelberg can be costly.

retrofit our 2003 52-4hse. I got a flyer a few years ago on upgrades and those were on the flyer. if it saves 20 minutes a day adjusting it just might be worth the expense.

It might very well suit your needs but I would suggest you do your homework. See if you can find out from Heidelberg who has done a retrofit or if they can get you testimonials from other users of similar configurations. From my past experience no one that had the the new guide plates or new style sheet brakes has any problems.
