Help Quick turn

We recently changed paper brands on our cover stock due to customer demands for Brightness. Since we started using this new paper (International Paper Carolina 10PT C1S UL-94) We have had slower turn times and more offset and poor rub resistance. We have tried adding 2% drier both graphix and cobalt, extra teflon, and different inks from Kohl Madden and Flint Group. We are looking for 8 to 12 hour turn around time. We run alot of solids on the felt side of the covers we run and 4 to 5 colors on the gloss side. This is 2 pass work for us and a must use this new paper. We have had the vendor in and and outside sourse (ink Rep) Vendor pretty much said it is thier standard paper no changes but the ink rep tested the paperand found that it had a highe Ph than our older paper.
Should we re-evaluate our water or still look for different ink. Our regular process ink is a Kohl Madden which we might change anyway.

I have seen some brands of SBS where the felt side have an extremley low, acidic, pH which would retard the ink drying to the point that it may never dry. The only type of ink that is not affected by a low pH would be UV ink. High pH would be more then likely due to a high calcium content. This in itself would not slow down drying. However, other variables can be caused by calcium which can lead to drying and/or rub problems.

I wouldn't recommend adding wax or cobalt to your ink, it is best to leave this to your ink supplier as too much can actually have the reverse effect.

Sorry this isn't much help, but Carolina has been known for this since God created dirt. There are other C1S sheets out there that are just as bright. Maybe you could give something else a try such as a Tango.

To back up what Bob said, We use to have to add wax. Mainly for rub resistance on the gloss side, but the uncoated side never seemed to dry either.

Thanks. will have to check and see what purchasing can do.
We do have an inhouse ink guy that does our mixing for us. he is pretty sharp and has a decent eye for color mixing..
