We're going to start running 3 shifts very soon, so we'll officially be printing 24/7. I just wanted to take a poll and see if that's fairly normal or if most of you run less.
We run 2 shifts or so for the pressroom and bindery (about 20 hrs/day), with only a half staff on second shift. Front office, which includes CSRs and prepress, only run 1 8-hour shift.
We can't even get enough work in here for one shift. You guys got some secret for getting work because nothing seems to work here, it's like every said at once we don't need offset anymore.
Our bottleneck has never been at the printer but in bindery so we found adding more poeple to each shift and switching from 3 to 2 worked better. It is hard to have uniformity and good communication throughout 3 shifts. I have better control of 2 shifts then we ever did of 3.
