Illustrator CS6 Dialogs Get Skipped?

I recently made the switch to CS6 now that Esko plugins are compatible. My coworker (identical workstation) is also experiencing this issue.

The issue(s)
When going to print (file>print or apple+P) the "Print" dialog appears but quickly disappears like it has detected a return. It just prints out default settings to the default printer instantly. It's almost like it is registering a phantom return or something. Go to repeat this process after the errant save and the dialog appears as it should.

When going to Save As... (file>save as.. or apple+shift+s) then choosing PDF the "Save Adobe PDF" appears but quickly disappears like it has detected a return. It just saves default settings instantly. It's almost like it is registering a phantom return or something. Go to repeat this process after the errant save and the dialog appears as it should.

Is anyone else seeing this? I looked around the Adobe support website and couldn't find anyone else experiencing this.

We are both using latest/greatest retina MBP 10.8.2 with apple wireless kb/m. I recorded a screen capture of it but this version of vBulletin isn't exactly attachment friendly.

Additional notes:
This doesn't have every time with every file but I have yet to find a common denominator.

Have you tried unsinstalling esko to see if that could be the preoblem? Important to know if it is Adobe or the plug-ins causing this? Do you have any productivity tools enabled in your operating system? Is it Cloud CS6 or the "boxed CS6", they are the same at release date, but there is a different sub version on the cloud.

This happens with our without the Esko plugins. Creative Cloud install of Illustrator CS6. I noticed today for the first time that this is also occasionally occurring with AI file save as dialog.

I have experience with/without wireless keyboard and it makes no difference. I am feeling much more certain that this is a bug in Illustrator CS6.

The problem just got more serious. It is now saving files upon closing without prompting. I'm going to escalate this with Adobe. I will be sure to follow up.

This is going to be necessary...
Disclaimer: I am not racist and I have no problem with foreign call centers or support centers. My first job was frontline support in an American IT/IS call center. I love the idea of free-enterprise and some of the best support I have ever received (Juniper/Cisco) has come from India based call centers.

I just got connected to the worst technical support call center I've ever had to deal with. I could barely hear the guy (lets call him John) and he could barely hear me due the horrible connection and extremely loud unprofessional work environment. I could hear two guys telling jokes to each other - in english - and laughing obnoxiously loud the entire time. That said, John stuck to the very basic script of delete the preferences and check for updates and had no further technical literature or notes to draw upon. He couldn't even confirm if this was known issue or common complaint.

Really, Adobe?

Problem resolved? I have no idea.

Adobe is being completely mum about the cause of the problem. I've seen this on two Mac OS 10.8 computers. Apple has hidden the library folders now making it a bit more difficult to get to preferences/etc.

Here is how to reset Illustrator CS6 preferences on Mac OS 10.8:
  1. Quit Adobe Illustrator CS6 if open.
  2. In the Finder click "Go...' (at the top by file, edit, view, etc.)
  3. Choose "Go to folder…"
  4. Type in "~/Library" (minus the "quotations" but keep the tilde~)
  5. Choose the "Preferences" folder
  6. Choose the "Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings" folder
  7. Choose the subfolder (example: "en_US", "es_ES", "en_UK"). This is dependent on the language(s) you use/installed.
  8. Backup the "Workspaces" folder
  9. Delete the "en_US" folder(s). Remember this is different if you are using a different language. Keep this Finder window open
  10. Relaunch Illustrator CS6
  11. If necessary, set any/all preferences back to what you had them set to "Illustrator > Preferences" (at the top by file, edit, view, etc.)
  12. Restore your "Workspaces" folder
  13. Relaunch Illustrator CS6

Problem remains.... Bug report filed. https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

Adobe has made it impossible to reach someone who is very informed and have a dialog. I will follow up with news...

BE VERY CAREFUL. The instant saving of modified files without a dialog is extremely concerning and could really cause serious headaches for those of us working on cartons/labels/etc..

Sad that it seems to be such a trouble. Have you tried re-installing? Uninstalling, emptying trash restarting, check permissions then do a re-install? I have not had any issues or heard of this kind of issues.

did you mention this was a cloud install?
are you doing the subscription thing and thats how you get the software download, thru the cloud.

i bet it has something to do with the cloud install.

I did all of this before calling support. What is most concerning is that it doesn't happen consistently. I have yet to find the common denominator.

What makes you think the cloud installer would be any different than disc? Though it could be some kind of compiling thing when they added new features or something I guess.

This can be replicated on two identical workstations Retina MacBook Pro 2.7-i7 running MacOS 10.8.2 with Creative Cloud.

Update:

I went to the insane step of formatting my mac and reinstalling everything new. Experienced the same problem pretty much immediately.

Illustrator 16.2.1 update was just released and I will report if the problem persists or not.
