imposing PDFs

I need help I have an imposition problem with PDFs.

We currently produce a catalogue digital on specialist paper on a Xerox press.

The Catalogues are about 500 leaves (1000) printed pages in abut 18 different sections.

Pages are ring binder punched on the left hand side.

Pages are supplied as 1 to view (single page) as an A4 (210x297) pages are printed 1up on 225x297.

Odd pages are ranged to the right Even pages to the left to avoid the file holes.

We then print it duplex collated on the press. Then drill and insert into binders.

I need to find an easy way to make the imposed PDFs to send to the press.

Currently I use Dynastrip and Acrobat. I drop the PDFs I need into the pagelist window create the imposition and drop the PDFs into the runlist window (this is a bit like Preps aswell) and then export as PDFs. This gives me the pages to the correct size and position. Files are saved out as Fronts and Backs. I then have to combine the files in Acrobat to make a complete PDF (1 File) so I can send it to the press.

As you can imagine this takes ages, does anyone know of an easier way I could do this. I am open to buying new software if it works not too espensive. I did think about using an Action List in Pitstop to do it, but I don't think I can change the page size in that.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Imposing PDFs

We do quite a lot of this sort of work. What you describe is fairly easy to achieve using Quite Imposing's trim & shift function. It's done in two passes - once for the evens, once for the odds, but after you have done it the first time, you can save it as an automation sequence.

Dynastrip

I wanted to chime in to let you know that what you want to do should be able to be done directly in Dynastrip. Unless I miss something in your explanation, it should be easy and automatic. If you could PM me your Company name or contact information, I'll have my Technical Support call you and walk you through the solution.

Let me know!

I don't like Quite's Trim and Shift because it isn't a true shift. I use Imposal. You can combine the document and then shift just odds or just evens, all in the same document so you don't have to combine them after. You can also do just the odds and then just the evens and then combine them. It has a great preview for all the features and you can save templates.
