indesign CS4 problem

wonderings

The problem is in indesign CS4 6.0.5 on a mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Not sure what has happened, but today when loading up indesign, it seems some of my saved preferences were no long there. My workspace layout was fine, but all my units of measurements were switched to picas, and I had the welcome screen when loading. I thought this was odd, but not a huge deal because I can change back to inches. I did that, but I still have picas when creating a new document, but inches for the rulers when the page is actually created. Am I missing a step here, is there a separate unit of measurements I need to change for the "create a new document" window? I am thinking something is corrupted in the preferences, but not exactly sure whats going on.

Change the preferences to your liking when no documents are open. Then quit and relaunch InDesign. The quit and relaunch isn't really necessary, but if you don't do it and it either crashes later or if you have to Force Quit your settings won't hold.

Thats what I originally did. Set up everything without a document open. It didn't work. I trashed the preferences and that fixed it.

Thanks
