Indesign packaged files with file(s) updated outside of the packaged file

Happens frequently: I package an ID5 file, then three months later need to reopen the package and work with the files; however, there may have been a file [logo? image?] that has been updated after I packaged the files. Since my mind is aging and my memory is terrible, I don't recall changed that have been made, if any.

How do others handle this situation? Is there a utility that can look back to the unpackaged central files?

We just had a quality control procedure to check logo usage, operator(s) & designer(s) signed off on it once it was verified as correct.

I always accept InDesign's default packaged folder name of Filename Folder. This alerts me that the file was meant for handoff. Immedialtely after creation, it would have been compressed and I either delete the compressed or uncompressed folder as follows.

If the document consisted of new assets, not already local to the office, I keep the uncompressed folder and will work within that in the future.

If the document used assets already local to my office, I keep the compressed folder as a reminder that it was handed off and have the ability to check what went out at a later date.

When I navigate my folders, if I see Filename Folder, I know that the file was used for handoff, and the folder name is the key.
