Ink Coverage Calculator

Does anyone know of a good program that calculates ink coverage? Preferably something independent of Illustrator.

Hi Chris,

We have a product called Printcalc at www.printcalc.com

This is an online tool for reporting on CMYK and Spot Colour coverage.

Also, we have just updated Printcalc with an optimisation feature to Correct Colour and Reduce TAC, showing a comparison on how you can reduce ink usage.

We provide free credit for testing files, and optimised files are currently free for a limited time.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Hello everyone! Has anyone found free alternatives to programs for calculating toner or ink coverage? I don't need it often, but sometimes once or twice a month I have to estimate the cost of color printed pages for our clients' printers.

I found only one online resource that seems to match what I'm looking for - This Calculator , but the accuracy of its calculations is unclear, though it appears to be close to reality. Also, I'm not satisfied with online options; I don't want to upload my documents to unknown places. It would be better if there was some kind of local utility...

What printer do you have? Most wide format printers have a built-in ink calculator that you access either from the IP address of the printer or in the included workflow software. These usually work by giving you the ink amounts after it's printed, which will be the most accurate numbers. I'd imagine any third party software being used before a print is only an estimate and not 100% accurate. It would be worthwhile to compare some before and after numbers to verify the accuracy.

We do our pricing based on an average so we could come up with a consistent square foot price that doesn't fluctuate based on the ink coverage. We sent several files that represent the range of jobs we do and just put in some margin that would cover it.
