Ink coverage

Is there a method to evaluate PDFs by Ink percentage of the entire PDF. I am trying to determine ink usage. For example: Both PDFs are 8.5x11. One PDF is full bleed registration-result is 400% overall. The second PDF has only 100%K, 60%C, 40%M, 40%Y-Result is 240%. Solid backgrounds are just an example, I am trying to evaluate UCR/GCR treatment of images and elements on the PDFs.

Acrobat 9 Preflight supports ink coverage computation for all objects in the PDF - taking transparency and overprinting in account!

there is a free test utility for Ink coverage you can get at http://www.tglc.com/english/PerfX/image_ink_saving.html
but it does JPG or TIFF so you would need to convert your PDF's to image first.
