Ink savers

Does anyone use ink savers? I guess there's different ways to approach it. Looking for some ideas.
We've looked into some 3rd party software for about 5000. Oris has ink saver package I guess.
Does anyone know how use utilize UCR and/or GCR?
Any thoughts or suggests where to begin?
