Inkjet Label Printers

I've been looking at label printers (and presses) for creating prime labels. Mostly short runs and occasional medium runs also. Unless I can justify considering Digital/Color Laser Presses for investment reasons, I've narrowed (no pun intended) options to these inkjets:
4800-dpi Primera LX900e and 1200-dpi SwiftColor SCL-4000D

The LX900e is rather popular however, the print heads are manufactured by Lexmark who will no longer be involved in the inkjet business by end of 2013. (That's sounds potentially expensive in the long run... )

On the other hand, the SCL-4000D is Canon-based (which I like), appears to be quicker yet sacrifices some quality.

any thoughts and/or experiences with inkjets for prime labels?

James,
They are both scanning systems, with small inkjet cartridges. If you are using one of these systems to produce labels for occasional production of home made salsa etc., they are acceptable. However, once you get into print for re-sale or consistent production runs, your are changing cartridges frequently and your cost per print can be un-affordable. Look at the Memjet based systems. I am with Afinia, our Memjet based system --the L801 is fast/single pass inkjet, four color, 1600 dpi label printer that prints a prime label and offers the affordable price per print. Remember the desktop home inkjet model ($40 per printer and $200 per year on ink). Our industrial system is made for converters, industrial in-plants and commercial printers that want to produce their own labels.
