KM 8000 GRACol G7 Calibration

Hello,

Our facility has multiple KM 8000 engines, with Fiery RIPs. We'd like to bring these machines to within G7 specs, but not necessarily by shelling out $10k to consultants.

We are very experienced with calibration for multiple stocks, color workflows, assigning those calibration sets to the paper stock in the paper catalogs, enabling "media defined" profiles in our color workflows, etc...

We have the Graphic Arts Premium and Color Profiler Suite, but are having trouble understanding how to initiate the G7 process on our own. Does anyone have any tips or step by step guides? Thanks

The first thing to do is see if the solids and overprints can hit the specified color targets. If you can get those to hit, then adjust the "dot gain" curves to get the NPDC. Finally, make the final adjustments to get gray balance.

My guess is that it will not work.

For most digital devices linearize and/or calibrate to a base running condition. Profile that state. Use the resulting ICC profile as your destination colorspace in the RIP and the GRACoL (SWOP, FOGRA, ECI, whatever) colorspace as the source. Rendering intent will depend on the relative gamuts of the source and destination colorspaces.

Take advantage of the fact that these are digital devices. You don't have to go the same route that an offset press requires.

Incidentally, I'd do the job for 9.9k. :~)
