Linen stock issues

80# linen text prints fine if the images are heavy or solid. Grayscale is another story. I recently
started a single color black, 8pg. half-size saddle booklet job with grayscale images and at first the grayscale images were
fine. 75 books into the run the grayscale images looked like they were starved for toner. The lines that are
prominent in linen stock became prominent in the photos and the photos began to lack density. I decided
to put the job on my offset press just to get it done. I feel sure that this is a common problem and was
wondering if anyone would share helpful information regarding this print issue? Using a Xerox 770.

I have been involved in digital printing for a very long time. My first machine was a Canon CLC500 in the mid nineties. I now have a 700I. It is simply just a constraint in digital printing. The 700I is shockingly the best machine I have used printing on linen stock and was surprised it did as well as it did. I have never had luck with any of my previous machines.

If you are using Neenah Classic Crest or Classic Linen, make sure you are using the digital version which has to be cut down from parent sheets. But, if you have your analyst or tech come out and play with the transfer voltage, it will print great on these stocks. Xerox machines will do best on linens.
