Morning Forum,

I'm looking for a brand of Clear Glue with good adhesion on Offset printed ink on mainly cardboard items to apply to the glue flap areas after die-cutting?

A glue that doesn't dry hard like white wood glue.

Regards,
Duncan

When looking for a clear glue that provides good adhesion on offset printed ink on cardboard, particularly for glue flap areas post-die-cutting, you should consider adhesives that are specifically designed to handle the variable absorbency and smoothness of printed cardboard. Here are some recommendations based on the information from various sources:
  • Art Glitter Glue is often recommended for its strong, clear bond. It does not contain glitter but is known for its clear drying and strong adhesion, making it suitable for detailed work like die-cut flaps. It's noted for not drying hard, which aligns with your requirement. However, it's crucial to apply it sparingly to avoid seepage through the cardboard.

  • Beacon 3-in-1 Glue is another good option. It's praised for its versatility and dries clear without becoming hard like wood glue. It's particularly useful on paper and cardboard, providing enough tack without damaging the print or causing warping. This glue can be applied with a precision tip, which is ideal for glue flaps.

  • Bearly Art Glue is also mentioned frequently in crafting communities for its fine-tip applicator which helps with precise applications on die-cut areas. It dries clear and remains flexible, ensuring it doesn't stiffen the cardboard. Its properties are similar to what you're looking for in terms of adhesion and flexibility.

  • Nuvo Glue is highlighted for its strong adhesion on die cuts and for not drying too hard. It's known for its good hold on various surfaces, including printed cardboard, without leaving a hard residue.

When selecting a glue, also consider:
  • Drying Time: A glue that allows some repositioning time can be beneficial for aligning flaps but should dry clear and not too hard.
  • Application: Look for glues with precision applicators or tips to control the amount of glue used, minimizing excess that could affect the look or function of the cardboard.
Always test the glue on a scrap piece of your specific cardboard to ensure compatibility with the ink and the cardboard's material. This will help you avoid unexpected outcomes in your final product.
