MACs - PCs - ExtremeZ - SMB

I am planning a move from a MAC mini Fusion server back to a KickButt PC server I have sitting around.
I, know in the past, (from Rampage days) the hot setup was to run ExtremeZ-IP
on the server to run AFP and mostly to resolve font transfer problems.

Now -- if SMB is the network connection protocol
do these "old" font issues persist?
Or,
do MAC and PC fonts act politely through SMB?

I ran a quick test
and the MAC fonts hit the PC server and showed 0kb
but
when I brought them back over to the MAC
they were complete useable fonts - all intact.

Was that just beginners luck?

Will the 0kb PC (MAC) fonts
load into Suitcase and act properly?

That ... I will be testing tomorrow.

The fonts with 0kb are older Pre OS X fonts with the actual font information in the resource fork instead of the data fork like newer fonts.

That being said, if you copy fonts from a Mac to an SMB mounted drive, you should maintain the resource fork of the font. When looking at the mapped drive on the Mac, you should see the font is not 0kb. If you go to the Windows server or another Windows machine, you will see the font is 0kb.
