Mailing Services

Were in the process of adding mailing services to our printing company. Any suggestions on the best program for variable data?? How about sorters/stuffers?

try PrintShopMail (PSM) WYSIWYG. Works great and easy to use! I'm working with it for over 5 years and wil stay using it!

We just use the data merge in InDesign for variable data. If you build your spreadsheet correctly, it can do anything but conditional formatting. It can be a little slow, but it's free. Unless you're doing something truly massive, (or the afore mentioned conditional formatting) I'd stick with that until you get your feet wet.

As for presort software, we just switched to accuzip from bcc mail manager. I love it, the scripting feature is awesome. It has saved me hours already.

Unless you're doing matched mailing inserters are a dime a dozen. The less computerized the better, stick with purely mechanical systems. Start with something cheap to preserve capital and reexamine after you develop a customer base . . .

If you are looking to offer mailing services in a cost effective manner I would encourage you to also consider Presort Direct as an option. We can presort your mailing file (keeping all fields intact) and return to you all required forms and paperwork necessary to mail your printed material. We also provide detailed instructions to allow you to prepare your mail with confidence. Keep in mind there are requirements from the USPS as far as quantity (200 items for standard or bulk mail, and 500 pieces for first class). At $30 per list for on demand and $1000.00 per year for unlimited service I think we are very competitive. You are also meeting the move/update requirement mandated by the USPS as well.
