Managing DotGain Curves

We are looking to create new curves for each ink/substrate combination to work towards ISO12647. I wondered how you go about the best way of sending files through the RIP making sure that the right curve is applied in Nexus (impositions from ArtPro).

There are so many options; Create a separate workflow for each curve. Have one workflow and use XML files to override the curves.... If they have an issue on press, how can I tell what curve was applied to the plate.

Thanks for any help/advice. I haven't began creating any curves yet and it's already giving me a headache!

As far as determining what curve was applied to the plate, you might try the technique described here:

The options you mention are about the only two unless you have backstage.
Backstage will help keep a record. The one item that I've been asking for in dotspy for about 5 years now is someway to read a tag of what info was set by the screener.
This would at least allow you to double check....the plate file.

The task your taking on is no easy task. I don't think there is need to make a curve for every ink/substrate combination. You just need put them into groups, and make avgs of those curves. This will get you allot less combinations and allot less headaches for your operators.

Yeah, this would be another good option to help limit the time frame to figure out what curves are needed. I think pressSync is an Addon option is for some users. Not sure on this.

MacDevin - I agree, I am hoping to average our curves and have as few as possible. Wont know how many we need but hopefully just one for each main paper type. Good to see you on here, you were always really helpful on the old prepressforums.

Joe - Yes, we have Concentric license and PressSync (this is the reason for creating the new curves). Esko are onsite tomorrow for PressSync training. We also have GMG PrintControl Pro so we can see which method will be best for creating our curve information.

Because ESKO/ARTWORK includes the pressink as part of the Concetric screening package.
