Marketing gurus in the printing industry have some unusual and imaginative ideas.

I just read an article about the new HP Indigo presses that are coming out. The 10000, soon to be followed by the 20000 and the 30000. Is this an example of model number inflation? Will next Drupa have the 100000, 200000, and 300000 models and maybe the numbers will eventually go into the millions. I have to say, that I am having a hard time with all the zeros.

And what is with manroland spelling its name with a lower case m. What should one do if manroland starts a sentence? Put a capital on it or leave it in lower case, which I have seen and it looks dumb. What do I tell young people who would want to correct it?

Does Agfa still use the : for its products? Why a colon? Colon this and colon that. Nothing good can come out of a colon, as far as I am concerned.

Maybe I am getting too old to appreciate the finer points of marketing. ;-)

Are there any other fine marketing examples you think should be brought to our attention? It's Drupa time and there must be a whole bunch.

No more than 5 minutes after my post I see that Kodak has launched Sonora plates. ZZZZZzzzz. You would think they would want to wake up their customers and not put them to sleep. ;-)

Well it's the lowercase "drupa" show.

Let's see... Heidelberg’s drupa motto is ‘Discover HEI’. The last time I was invited to do that was by a fellow named "Neon" back in the 60s. But I didn't inhale. ;-)

And Kodak's slogan?..."Yellow changes everything" hmmm (especially if it's snow)

best, gordo

I suggested to our Agfa sales rep. - a really awesome guy named :Rich - that if they ever make any sort of client application designed specifically for previewing high-resolution post-RIP images (kind of like the Series 3 Preview Pilot), they should name it :Oscopy.
