Media calibration charges from Kodak outrageous

Recently ran into a situation where Kodak are charging $8,000.00 for a media calibration on a Trensetter VLF. Holy cow!!! This is to go from Kodak Gold to Agfa Energy Elite, I guess it should not come as a surprise as to why the price is $8,000.00. I must say that I have not seen this before, the price used to be $1,500.00 - $3,000.00.

It looks like desperation to keep the consummable business can lead to some very unethical business practices.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

Cheers,

RP

I wonder what the charge would have been to switch from Agfa Energy Elite to Kodak Gold.

I've run into this also... especially with Kodak. Naturally, They want to protect their customer base so they wil make it as difficult as they can for a customer to switch to a competitors product.
However, I do know of other options, usually much more reasonable than having Kodak doing the plate set-ups.
Partially depends on the location and make and model ot the CTP System.
Want to know more???
Write me directly or give me a call...

Have a great day!

If they didn't lose you as a customer before they certainly will after gaffing you with those prices. I had a general manager who hated Agfa after we had plates issues when we started using P970s. He wouldn't choose Agfa again is they gave away their equipment and plates. You know they should really partner with their customers regardless of who they choose. Like a saying goes for restaurants: Happy customers tell no one, unhappy customers tell EVERYONE!
