multiply of PSD files doesn´t work in Illustrator and InDesign CS4

Hi,
Fist of all, sorry about the english, I´m Brasilian.

I used to make the shadows of my work in Photoshop.
I use a layer where the object is in 100% black, BlendMode Multiply and transparency 60%.
When I place the PSD file in Illustrator or InDesign CS4 the blend mode does not work...

I had to use the files linked, because I usually make different pieces (ads, banners, flyers) with the same artwork, the option to make the shadows in Illustrator does not work for me, sometimes the shadows are not the drop shadow, and I will have to make the effect in each file.
To use the artwork embeded in illustrator doesn´t work for me either because usually the client ask for changes and is much more easy and fast to modify one piece than many.
It works in CorelDraw, Macromedia Freehand and used to work in CS2.
Anyone can help me, please?
I already posted the question in other foruns and so far, nothing...

What file format are you saving it as to place into Illustrator and InDesign? I've noticed that Layered TIFF files don't act the same as layered PSDs when importing transparencies into InDesign. That may be part of the issue.

Well, I just did a quick test, and both the PSD and TIFF placed into Illustrator just fine, with the transparency and multiply working just like it should. When I placed them I made sure that "Convert layers to objects" was selected and it worked fine. Choosing "Flatten layers presented some unwanted results, removing the multiply but keeping the transparency. Dragging and dropping the images in instead of using the "Place..." command yields the same result as flattening, so avoid doing it this way. Placing it as a link also gives the same result as flattening it, so it looks like the only option is to embed the psd or tiff into the file and convert the layers to objects.

that´s the problem I must work with linked files.
Imagine this: I have an artwork (look image1), it repeats in various other artworks (ads, banners, panels, etc). If the client decides to change the color of the hair (for example), I change in the base artwork and when I open the magazine ad, the link will be updated and I can prepare the PDF file to print.
If the artwork is embeded in the Illustrator file, I have to place again the artwork, put it in the correct position and size then i can prepare the PDF file.
It takes time, specially when I work with large files (e.g. Bilboards). :(

another thing, i tryed dragging from the Bridge.
Guess what?
Instead of removing colors from other plates, it add color in ALL plates.

PDF supports blend modes, Illustrator supports blend modes, but photoshop does not.
But as Verdant says if you open a PSD in Illustrator you can retain blending of layers if you import to layers.
In design you need to make sure you have overprint preview on.

In your case maybe just add the drop shadow in illustrator instead?
