Need help - Docucolor 242 - Setting up Scan to Email

I have a Docucolor 242 and need help in setting up the scanner so that it will send the scanned images to an email address. I have tried several settings, but I am not having any luck. I can't find anything online about this either or in the manuals. Anyone have knowledge about setting this up?

THANKS!

If it doesn't work the way it should I wouldn't bother fighting it too hard. If you're using an Office RIP a lot of the features included are only very lightly tested and are often full of bugs. In theory it should scan to e-mail.. in practice, well, I don't know. You might get lucky.

I'd say your best bet is to work around it and scan it to your computer, then e-mail it. Unless for some reason you absolutely HAVE to scan to e-mail, if it doesn't seem to be working, just use another method.

thanks - I will see if I can figure out how to set it up to scan to my computer instead. That would be just fine.

If you are using the bustled Fiery it should be simple enough. Find the program "Fiery Remote Scan" and point it the IP address of your printer. If your settings are still defaults then log in with

user: guest
and no password

And your scannned files should show up. From there you can send them to various places, the recommended being yer comp's hard drive.

On the rare occasion I use the printer to scan this works fine for me.

See the below three screenshots. I don’t have many tabs….can’t see where to setup the scan to email, etc. No where to setup SMTP, etc….

did you set smtp setting for server that you use to send email? That should do the trick.

You gotta input the IP manually - if you run them via Command Workstation it'll be stored in there. Type in the IP and give it a name, log in per my previous instructions and you're good to go.

I did enter the ip manually, but what I should have said is it doesn't find any scans. I see there is a space to enter a mailbox, but I am not sure where I create mailboxes on the printer. I thought since I login with the username "admin" and password is blank.....that there would be a mailbox for "admin". However, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Try what I said earlier -

If you are using the bustled Fiery it should be simple enough. Find the program "Fiery Remote Scan" and point it the IP address of your printer. If your settings are still defaults then log in with

and no password

And your scannned files should show up. From there you can send them to various places, the recommended being yer comp's hard drive.

I don't have a place to enter a username or password. Just the IP address. See attached image.

Yeah, is a little bit different on the PC I guess. Just enter in guest as your mailbox and refresh and your scans should show up. Never noticed it was a mailbox and not user name before. Are you using the bundled scan templates? Well give it a go and tell me what happens, have attached a screenshot for disambiguation

I have tried guest, admin, Administrator, tried leaving is blank....nothing shows up and the acquire button doesn't become clickable at the bottom either.

Hmm, very weird. How 'default' is the setup of the RIP? Has it been changed much from the factory?

I'd say it should just be a case of typing in "guest" and hitting return, or clicking on refresh and your files show up. Don't forget to use the canned templates in the scanning screen as well, just to be sure.

That or you could just get a mac :p Or if someone in your office has one, try it from there.

Get it sorted?

Get it sorted?

If no I was looking at the patches earlier on today and it occurred to me that they might be of help to you.

I don't know if this link will work, it's a bit complex so if it doesn't just head over to Xerox Support, Drivers & Downloads, DC242/252/260 section.

DocuColor 242/252/260 Drivers and Downloads

And if you did get it working, tell us how ye did it!

This patch from the xerox website should fix your problem:
"1-T2ZJH Patch tool to fix "cannot download scanned images" issue."

I also came across this problem - the missing "Change Mailbox" button on OSX 10.5, where the update to 10.5.6 did fix the problem (related to Java).

Hope this helps
Cheers,

Wolfgang
