Hi,

I appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction to troubleshoot and fix this problem. We are small print shop that have old version of Prinergy (2.0.4). It works good until yesterday when it freezes when opened at the error:

"Unable to conect to the DEVICES AND SERVICES DAEMON on PRINERGY1 (10092-- Communication failure - No Orbix daemon at node: 192.168.1.1 [Completion status : COMPLETED_NO]"

When I check the event viewer on the server (windows 2000) this is the error:

"Internal software error: E 04Jan11 17:52:03.796 [1040.2288] PRINERGY1 Administrator UADM.main CORB_ObjRefFactoryImpl.cpp(208): Unexpected Orbix COMM FAILURE caught, rethrowing: 10092-- Communication failure
- No Orbix daemon at node : 192.168.1.1
[Completion status : COMPLETED_NO]"

Then I execute the Orbixd.exe manually, this is the error:

"SYSTEM_EXCEPTION : 10561-- Licencing error
- Licence for this product has expired
[Completion status : COMPLETED_NO]"

My question are:

1. How come this module from the Prinergy expired after almost 10 years? This module is from IONA Progress Software.

2. Do we have anyway to find where the license is in this installation?

Thanks for your answer. I am new with this software.

Luis

Orbix license expired

Orbix license expired

This is a worldwide issue on Iona SW orbix daemon Software. It is currently affecting all Iona SW customers using version 3.01 or older. Since you said your SW is 10yrs old you likely have ver 2.0. As of now there is no complete fix, however there is a simple work around.

1. Set your PC date to some time in 2010.
2. Re boot the PC - the Orbix SW will start and run OK.
3. Change the PC date back to the current date - this will not affect the Orbix SW since it only checks the license at first boot up.

Log a case with Iona SW and they will notify you when a fix is available. Currently their timeline is at least 60-90 days away from a real fix.

Hi Ktguy,

Thanks for your respond. That what I did. The Orbix stats fine, but we have to set it back to the current date since we use Oracle database to track changes for our works.

I got another respond from one of our anonymous member that I would like to thank for his respond and allow me to post this information for everyone:

"We had this same problem here and it was resolved by contacting
PROGRESS SOFTWARE CORPORATION
12 Oak Park | Bedford, MA 01730 | USA
DIRECT +1 781 280 4063 | FAX +1 781 658 2464
In our case, our software had a perpetual license which should have not expired, so they sent us new temporary software license keys to get us operational until they come up with a longer term solution."

I did call Progress and Donald, a very helpful customer service, provided a temporary license to start the Orbix daemon.

But now it comes up with different error that I suspect for somehow the Oracle database was corrupted:

"Unexpected Orbix COMM FAILURE caught, rethrowing: 10085-- Communication failure
- no server at host : 192.168.100.1"

192.168.100.1 is our server IP address on with the application with Orbix module installed and the application refuse to work properly.

I have contact Progress Support to see if they recommend anything, but don't hear from them yet. I will post reply if I get it.

Thank you,
Luis

We worked with Progress Technical Support engineer, Mohamed. He determined that Orbix module is working as expected. It turned out that the problem was our Oracle database was not running. As a result, Orbix could not start daemons that using the database and reported that no server found. After Oracle database is fixed and up, the problem goes away. Thank everyone for your help.

Luis.
