Paper Trim & Confetti Waste

Hey guys,

So we have a production house with 7 narrow web offset presses (4 Drent Gazelles and 3 Drent Visions). We currently extract all our waste trim which gets blown into a plastic bag that sits along side the press. The confetti is blown into a fabric bag.

Unfortunately - both these methods work poorly. The confetti usually ends up flying all over the floor because they hang onto the web by static until it gets to a roller at which point its flung off somewhere. FOr the trim waste, we need to poke holes in the bags as the air from the blower needs to escape somewhere, this means little bits of trim end up flying all over the place.

Needless to say, with 7 presses, our factory is in a constant mess! Unfortunately, extracting the waste to the outside is not possible because of the design of our building and because the distance it needs to go is far too great (over 150m).

How do you guys overcome these problems? Any creative ideas of how to solve this?

Out in our production area they use a gaylord box (4'x4'x4') with a throw net laid over the top. It's surprisingly tidy. Hope that helps.

Throw net on Amazon.

Good luck.

For the confetti, you could look into adding a cyclone unit to your extract line, these are very effective when set right.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but you could try adding a combination vacuum and paper baler system. Although I do not have any web presses, I have a vacuum system attached to several pieces of bindery equipment which goes to a central baler system.
