Preflight Question

Does anyone know if there is any way that esko's preflight parameters include a warning for white text or white objects overprinting and thus disappearing when being sent to the imagesetter? We have been burned multiple times by this. We receive files from customers where the artist will click on overprint for white. And the only way to catch the problem is in viewer or having to select each individual white element on a job. When we receive huge files with this problem it's kind of hard to go over each job with a fine tooth comb. Thank you in advance for responding.

You can use a 'Preflight with Pitstop' ticket to deal with this in AE. Also DeskPack's Preflight module has a setting for this IIRC.

Go to https://www.esko.com/en/Support/ and the AE documentation search for "Optimize PDF Separations" and look at the "Overprints" settings. This may interest you.

While that ticket will over ride what's been put in place it is a much safer practice to run a preflight checklist with pitstop and fail when overprinting white is detected. That way a human operator can verify what the proper handling of these objects is. You may want the objects to remain invisible or you may want to make them visible. This is certainly one of those areas where a computer cannot make the best decision for you.
