Prinergy vrs Prinect vrs Apogee

Hi we are currently planning on switching from our Brisque workflow to either Prinergy, Prinect or Apogee.

Does anyone have any good and/or bad feedback from the above workflows?

Also, we currently have "mac operators" and separate "system operators" and was wondering if you all have separate positions or does one operator take the job through from the beginning?

thanks

Re: Prinergy vrs Prinect vrs Apogee

We have been using Prinergy for 5.5 years and are very happy with it. It's expensive compared to some others, but it is really stable, and Kodak continues to develop it with interesting features. Tech support is very good when you need them, which is to say "not very often."

We only have Mac operators here. Prinergy comes with several copies of an application called Workshop that allows operators to run files through Prinergy without leaving their Mac or PC.

What's the task description difference between your "mac operators" and "system operators"?

Hi Colorblind!

Thank you for asking.

Currently the "mac operators" check all incoming files, adding bleed, converting from rgb to cmyk, type revisions, image manipulation, typsetting, design, check that the files are built properly, etc, and print the files to a postscript file.

The "system operators" rip the postscript files, build the preps layout, check that the files ripped properly (in regards to transparency issues, size and colors match docket plan, trap files, then they output all proofs, fold and trim proofs and also revise and make plates.

Currently, both sets of operators keep very busy. We have 2 of each in at any given time and are a 24/7 shop.

We have heard that perhaps most shops have one person carry the project through from beginning to end and are concidering adopting that method although the skill set of one position does not immediately transfer to the other. For instance, you may have an ex-film stripper who has never set type or perhaps rarely been in Quark or Indesign etc.....
