Purup Magnum Imagesetter

Hi all,
Can anyone advise on Purup magnum Imagesetter (1996 model). I want to know how it work, availability of the spare part and others. Cheers

They were/are great CtF machines. You may want to consult your local EskoArtwork rep to check on service available, parts etc.. , you'll want to know what software is coming with the imagesetter, how you will get your current workflow to print to it, environmental and power requirements, and they may be able to provide you with a technician to check over the system for you prior to your purchasing it. Then there is the matter of film compatibility and availability. Check the EskoArtwork website, Packaging and printing pre-production solutions - EskoArtwork , to help find an EskoArtwork office in your area.

As Eskopdl says:"A great machine" I have had hours and hours of fun inside a Magnum's guts so I can confirm. A word of advise though check the spindle motor for signs of tampering, a burnt smell for instance, very important is the condition of the spinner and it's mirror, look if the mirror has any dark spots they would imply that the mirror is going blind. Gently, oh ever so gently remove the fiber-optic cable attached to the optic house and peek inside at the iris if it looks snarled then forget it, you will never get a decent dot. As for the laser, replacement lasers of the specs you need are pretty easy to get hold of on the other hand the installation and alignment is not for the faint of heart or weak of wallet.
If the device is clean, not a lot of dust inside and has a good mirror, the Iris in order then you have a CTF that will be a work horse for years to come.

indeed, a great machine

indeed, a great machine

I have a Magnum in production with IR laser and it is a great machine. Back in 2002 I've took a course as service engineer for Ctf at the plant in Lystrup, DK where it was assembled and I was impressed.
My primary concern is about the parts availability as former Purup merged and merged and merged again; Esko moved at former Barco in Belgium, I think, and is not anymore in CtF/CtP hardware business. According to Danish law they have to keep parts for 10 years after production ceased.
The IR film is harder to find nowadays and I'm thinking to replace the IR laser diode with a visible red one. Has someone an idea what particular diode they used in that original module? And where I can find a good pigtailer to assemble the optical fiber to the laser?
