resolution to print question

I have my first new printer, and am getting prepared to run a few test prints. I thought I would try about 6 different 5x7 size in different coloration and contrasts, in order to learn correct profiling choices for future prints. Do I want the prints resampled to the approximate pixelation level of the larger prints that I would be printing, or would I get the same output at a condensed pixelation level? I will say 1200 dpi, opposed to 200-300 dpi. If so, I need to resize down for the smaller samples to get a good read for profiling. I thought I would run this test batch in several profiles, and use for future decisions. Thanks for the input. Jack

What is the name / manufacturer of the print device ?

If you have a PDF, I would let the RIP do any downsampling.

Area these typical pages with vector art and pixel images ? What Line screen ( or is this some digital printing device ) ?

unless the image is a 1 bit tiff - the images should be no more that 300 ppi ( pixels per inch )

Profile - that is, ICC COlor management profiles - do nothing about resolution.

Well it is an hp 3200ps, and not printing PS on this job, I'm printing JPG. Will softwares resample the downsizing, or will the try to print with full infomation condensed? Or would I have to resample them on my software to get a good sample before hand which is what I did and it worked set at 200...The thing is I will be printing art prints and photos that maybe 2x3 feet and I would like to get a small color proof to show my customer, that well represents the final product..... I'm not using a software RIP program, but rather corel draw 12 which seems to be putting out good results for the samples.... I can make a sheet size that I need and nest my work on it. About all I need if the printer profiles will work for me. Maybe I will move up to a specialized RIP software when I get deeper into this thing.
