Seriously considering the C901. Does anyone have any comments on Ricoh? How's the service? Uptime?
Non-Ricoh employees most welcome.

On Paper the machine looks pretty good. It uses similar belt fusing as the Xerox Color 800/1000, similar low melt organically grown toner (not pulverized) as the Xerox Color 800/1000, no fuser oil. These seem (on paper anyway) to fix anything that was a perceived problem with the Ricoh C900. If you recall the C900 was very reliable, could run (& perfect) 110lb cover at rated speed, but it still used fuser oil. The C901 is supposed to do everything the C900 did with brand new toner, no oil and a completely redesigned fuser assembly. I am anxious to see if Ricoh really does have a Xerox Color 800/1000 competitor on there hands. Does anyone know how the price compares to the Xerox Color 800/1000?

We we just bought, we were directed on the C900 but as soon as we have seen the improvements that the 901 did not we think of a second.
The print quality is improved compared to the 900, has no fuser oil, and then laminating it is much easier now able to produce good results even on embossed paper. The printer cost price € 135k, and has a very aggressive cost per copy € 0.045 A3 = A4. Is positioned in the market and the Xerox 7000/8000 KM8000, if they had the possibility of five color I think would be an excellent rival even the Xerox 800/1000.

Unfortunately not yet, will come the second half of January.
We could still perform many proofs on the demo machine, and we were very satisfied.

I'd be very interested to know what embossed/textured paper you have tried and how successful it was.

Our first knm8000 demo was not very successful with zeta linen 260gsm which was a bit of a surprise given that our km5501 loves the stuff.

1. Printing on light weight coated (especially gloss) stock. (Anything below 150gsm can give you issues especially when duplexing).

What issue do you get ? jamming or something else ?

Did you have that little fan on the exit of the finisher ? I have one place where that solved the bricking issue but they are using thicker paper.

That little tray fan actually makes quite a difference on coated and heavy coverage pieces. I was surprised myself.

Hi,

My machines were fitted wit a cooling tower (buffer pass unit) which makes the little fan on the shift tray obsolete. The little fan on the tray doesn´t really help to much I had the feeling.

Cheers
PG

Yeah if you have the buffer pass you don't need the little fan. The fan on the exit does help though. I had a place that was getting bricking and adding the fan solved the issue.

Today though I was at one with the fan and they were running thin 12x18. The paper would shoot out too far off the shift tray and not stack well. Turning off the fan stopped that so it's good you can turn it off I guess.

What is the configuration of the machine & which is the rip. By the way what is your current meter reading. What is your opinion about the machine after using it. Thanks & Happy New Year in advance.

We purchased the Ricoh 901 a few weeks ago. We stepped up from a Konica Minolta 650 to this machine. So far our only complaint is paper stocks. The 901 is MUCH more picky on the types of stocks it likes to print on WELL. Linen stock, which was no problem at all for the 650, is a big problem with the 901. We even tried a piece of Vellum stock the other day and it turned out horrible as well.

I am hearing about a stock profile program that needs to be downloaded to the Fiery so that all paper profiles can be handled automatically by the copier. Anyone have any news on this? I love the machine and the quality is fabulous but if it can only handle smooth or silk stocks, this is going to be a killer in production!!

PaperPro, Sorry to hear about your troubles with stock. We to installed our 901 about 3 weeks ago and so far not one single problem. The machine runs great. We have ran Linen stock both text and cover, a large variety of gloss text and cover, offset, Vellum, Plastic stock, Magnecote. We have about 20m clicks so far. Other than an occassional missed sheet, very rare, it has performed as expected. I would suggest you call the tech and tell them to make it right. There's no reason why that machine wont run that stock. Good luck.

If you purchased your C901 through Ricoh or Ikon you should be able to engage their PPSE (Production Print Solutions Engineer) to assist with any and all of your concerns. If you're having trouble determining just who that person is drop me a line and I'd be happy to help.

Thanks guys for the replies. In fact Ricoh is coming back tomorrow to replace the main unit since the movers damaged it during transit. **Crossing my fingers** this will solve ALL the problems with the print abilities of the machine.

It will be very nice to finally see our machine outfitted with all the options that we ordered for it and running at 100% capacity. I'll be back in touch and let you know how this new machine performs on linen or textured stocks. I will ask my service tech in the morning to check all that out to before he leaves after the new install. Thanks!!

I'm having a demo on a 901 on Wednesday. Will have a large bundle of textured stock to test. Anyone got any idea what I should look for to get a 260gsm linen printing? Thanks.

The paper catalog is available now it does not come on the machine so get the tech to install it when you get your new one.

People wanted a fuser oil free product with higher image quality. The C901 incorporates the production performance of the 900 with better image quality. From a MCBF standpoint both the 900 and 901 produce about 4 times more prints between service calls than the Canon Imagepress line.

I am a currently work for Ricoh and previously worked for Canon as a Production Specialist
