PROBLEM: The RIP software being used is unsuccessful at applying (or possibly ignores) the PPD’s mirroring setting, but it seems to successfully apply the other PPD settings. QUESTION - How can mirroring via the PPD be established?
NORMAL WORKFLOW: A graphic designer sends artwork from their vector graphics editor to a CTS (computer to screen) printer. The CTS printer was recently upgraded and now ALWAYS flips (mirrors) images sent to it. A PPD (Postscript Printer Definition) file was developed to flip the image before it reached the printer, so that the final printed output will have the correct, left-to-right, orientation. RIP software applies the PPD to the image before saving it as a TIFF file. A printer operator drags the TIFF file into rasterizing software on the CTS printer’s control PC to actually print the image onto a mesh screen.
TECHNOLOGY USED: CorelDRAW; RTI RIP-Kit software (on server); DirectJet Rasterizing software (on CTS printer control PC)
CURRENT WORKAROUND: The printer operator finds the source artwork and loads it into a copy of the vector graphic editor on their system. They then mirror the image within the graphic editor before resending it to the CTS printer.
